SHOW CHOIR RULES

1. Show Choirs may present any type of performance.

2. Show Choirs, their instrumentalists, and crews may be any size.

3. Show Choirs from both performance centers will participate in the evening FINALS competition. The top six scoring show choirs from the gymnasium as well as the top scoring show choir from the auditorium (seven show choirs in total) will perform in a performance order determined by drawing. Should any school have TWO show choirs in FINALS, that school's FIRST SHOW CHOIR DRAWN will be the first performance of the evening and that school's SECOND SHOW CHOIR DRAWN will be the seventh performance of the evening.

4. Instrumentalists (with the exception of the choir's primary accompanist) must be students. This is a rule change from previous years. "The BIG DANCE" has been advised by the Iowa High School Music Association that adherence to this rule is necessary to avoid potential probation and possible sanctions against the Davenport North High School Music Department. These sanctions might include exclusion from IHSMA sponsored events such as Solo and Ensemble contests, All-State Choir, State Show Choir contest, etc. Non-compliance will result in DISQUALIFICATION from the competition.

5. On stage Technical Crew members must be students for the Show Choir to be eligible for our "Best Technical Crew" award. Adults may help with bringing equipment into the performance center, but may not participate in technical support of the show. Use of adults as a part of the on stage technical crew will make the Show Choir ineligible for this Caption Award.

6. Although we do not enforce a TIME LIMIT, Directors are asked to limit their show to 25 minutes, including Set-Up and Teardown.

7. There is NO SET STAGE. Davenport North's "House" platforms will be available for use, but are not required. "House" platforms are 4' X 8' and four (4) platforms of each height will be available. Heights are 8", 16", 24", and 32".

8. Show Choirs using confetti, streamers, sparkles, etc. will be responsible for clearing the debris from the stage and performance area.

9. Due to Fire Codes, NO PYROTECHNICS will be allowed.
