Vocal Boosters Meeting March 2nd, 2004
Meeting called to order at 7:04 p.m. There were approximately 18 people in attendance.
Minutes from the February 3rd, 2004 meeting were approved.
Treasurer Report was given: Check book balance is approximately $69 plus a deposit of $718 that was done today. There are several bills that have been received and need to be paid along with a $1000 credit card statement. In addition we need approximately $1700 to pay the hotel bill for the Totino Grace competition. Therefore, we need approximately $5000 to pay the current bills received. The Florida trip has been paid with the help of a loan from a parent that will be paid back from the Big Dance proceeds. The treasurer will try to compile a comparative report from last year’s balance to this year’s balance. Treasurer’s report was approved.
Director’s report: Riewerts informed the parents that the students will be leaving for Totino around 1:15 on Friday and will spend approximately 3 hours at the Mall of America before arriving at their hotel. The students will be getting up around 9:00 a.m. and will check out of the hotel at 11:30 a.m. to leave for the school. The performance time is 4:05 p.m. and the finals will start at 6:30 p.m. The bus will be leaving immediately after finals and the students will be arriving home around 6:00 a.m. Sunday. At the Cedar Rapids Washington competition Center Stage will be performing at 1:50 p.m. in the Auditorium and Northside will be performing at 3:40 p.m. The students are required to ride the bus to Cedar Rapids. He also informed the boosters that he is writing a letter to the Kiwanis club for the Show Off donation to be divided between all 3 high schools. “Thank you” to the parents, students, and Dan Virtue for all of their help with the Big Dance and Dan’s new program.
Schloemer reported that they are looking at music for the Florida performance and large group. Rehearsals begin in April for large group. The Elks are in charge of the entries and fees for the upcoming Talent contest and the boosters will be doing the concessions. The preliminary competition will be held during the day with 24 finalists posted at 6:00 p.m. The finals will begin at 8:00 p.m. She stressed a concern about getting out the information of the car raffle fundraiser and suggested having the students meet on a specific night to do a raffle drive and canvas several areas to sell tickets.
Committees:
Big Dance update: The total to date for Friday and Saturday excluding some pre-registrations is approximately $37,500. There are still a few bills left to pay. The count for VIP passes used was 156.
Scholarship: Sending out applications to the students.
Show Choir Clinic: We will be sending the students to Wood.
Swing: We are waiting for a guarantee for money to be received this year from them. Last year we were guaranteed $12.50 per person. The first game is in April.
Other business: Schloemer requested more candy bars for the concert choir students to sell. Riewerts informed the boosters about a legislation meeting to be held at St. Ambrose towards the end of March and the concern of positions being cut in the schools. He requested attendance and support from all of the parents. He also reported that there are enough chaperons for the Florida trip now. Everyone can take one suitcase and one carryon. The last Florida meeting will be March 16th, 2004.
Next meeting will be held April 6th , 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
