Vocal Boosters Meeting September 7th,2004

 

Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m., 25 people in attendance.

Minutes from the May 7th, 2004 meeting were approved.

 

Director’s report: 

Mr. Riewerts stated the kids have gained leadership skills and overall demeanor is great. He stated he is a stickler about being in class everyday. Contracts will be signed with the kids this week and he is pushing the kids to attend All State. Morning and afternoon practice schedule for the kids auditioning for All State, Opus. The student teacher is assisting with class by breaking the kids down into smaller groups. Fall concert is scheduled on October 18th. Final schedule is being worked for competitions. The choreographer will finish up routine in October.  Looking into planning a spring break trip to New York, March 31-April 2 through Fame organization (looking at fees). Mrs. Schloemer is in Florida, family commitment.

 

Fundraising: Attached is the review of the participation for the Swing of the Quad Cities this past summer. Jan Schmidts to coordinate next years schedule with Ovations who run the Swing concessions. North Vocal is one of the top two groups who will get first selection of dates. The school calendar will need to be considered in choosing date due to school functions. As a reminder the Davenport School District does not fund the Show Choir program.  Due to financial limitation, fundraisers like the Swing, and the Big Dance, help support the show choir program and also supports the scholarship program.

Coupon books are being sold for $25.00 ($6.00 per book sold goes into student account), each student provided sample book (need to check final due date).

Party Time foods will be sold for 2 weeks. Will need help on Nov 2nd to help sort and distribute orders.

Discussion about possible cake pan fund raiser and miniature golf outing at Lil Mississippi in the spring (pre-sold tickets).

 

Concert Uniforms: Stacy Peel to meet with Carol Hoeller.

Concessions: Need a volunteer.

Construction: Dave Peel will call Dan Iossi.

Flower/Gifts: Lois Thurston volunteered to coordinate

Make-up: Need volunteer to purchase and oversee.

Newsletter: Lynn Rubley working on obtaining articles (schedule, Silent Auction info…)

 

Show Choir – Costumes/Sewing: 2 student costumes outstanding. The fees for the Blue and Gold suits are not included in the assessment. Discussion held about subsidizing part of the cost of the suit. The blue and gold suits will be handled like the shoes and the cost will be sent out a later date.

 

Photography:  The proceeds from photography will go towards the scholarship fund. A directory of all the show choir students in the program to be sold at parent night. Student buttons will be sold to wear at invitational (take pictures of student at the beginning of practice).

 

Silent Auction:  Teri and Greg Pauline are Cod-chairs for the Silent Auction that is scheduled for Nov 5th in the small gym. The vocal music, band, and orchestra students participate in the silent auction. Students can earn 100% of what is donated to be sold. A list will be posted on the music room door identifying businesses the kids can request a donation. Last year over 800 items sold and the students received approximately $9000.00. All donations received must be marked with student name, identify band, vocal or orchestra, source of donation, and estimated value. Volunteer will be needed to help the night of the auction.

 

Other business: Mr. Riewerts stated the Wisconsin Singers will perform Friday, March 4th either at North or West Auditorium – will update as information becomes available.      

  

Next meeting will be held Ocober 4, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
